{Letter #6} First Week!

Hello friends!! I hope everyone's doing well!

The past couple weeks have been very eventful! I had a few last calls with my mtc district (shoutout to all of them- they are seriously the best) then headed to Utah!! I've been here for a week now and I am so happy.

Highlights:
-my companions!! Every night we say 5 things we're grateful for and companions always come first:) Seriously though, Sister McKinlay and Sister Skinner are so awesome and I'm so glad I get to be with them.
-English lessons!! It's one of the ways the missionaries here have been trying to reach out and find people and it's been super fun!!
-One of the ladies we're teaching English to couldn't say the letter "L." We tried to tell her that it was the same as "el" in Spanish (she could say that) but every time she tried to say the alphabet it would be like "h, i, j, k, airkk..." Every single time. I had to duck out of the camera because I was not handling that very well haha (another plus of being online)
-I don't understand very much of what the native Spanish speakers say BUT I already care so much for all the people we've talked to.
- studies. I think I've said this in literally every single one of my emails, but it deserves to be said again. THE BOOK OF MORMON IS SO GOOD. It was meant for US. Everyone should read it. That's it.

Quick thought:

We try to end most of our calls with a scripture and spiritual thought. Last Monday we had a lesson at 8:30. It was my first day in the mission so I was a little overwhelmed and I'd been awake and going for a long time. I was so tired. We had this last lesson then we were going to get ready for bed. We got through the English lesson, then we shared a spiritual thought. When we were wrapping up Sister McKinlay gave me the look. You know, the okay-we've-been-talking-it's-your-turn-now look. I was like okay no problem I practiced bearing my testimony a bunch in the mtc. I opened my mouth hoping something super eloquent and spiritual would come out. Unfortunately, the lack of sleep and lack of Spanish got my tongue and I said something like "Dios nos ama y ayudará nosotros y..... Dios nos ama." (God loves us and will help us and..... God loves us) That was it. I was blushing so hard. Thank goodness for my companions though. They just went with it and we ended the lesson and everything was fine.

Later I was thinking about that and I realized if there's one thing that I'd want to share with people about the gospel it's that God loves us (well that and the power of the Atonement of Jesus Christ but I feel like they're connected). God loves us so he sent us to earth with the ability to choose for ourselves. God loves us so he sent his son, Jesus Christ, to provide an atonement because he knew that with the gift of agency would come consequences for our actions. Jesus Christ didn't just atone for our mistakes, but our sorrows and hardships too. Because God loves us and his "work and glory" is for us to return to live with him again and be happy.

Wow okay I always have grand intentions of keeping these emails short and sweet and then I start writing them and that just does not happen haha. So thanks for your patience!

Email me whenever. I want to hear updates from your life too! Have you guys had any missionary experiences lately? Or any funny stories??

Love you!!
