{Letter #4} Almost There!

Hey friends!!

I hope everyone's doing well! I am getting very excited to be done with the MTC and actually be able to teach real people. I only have about one more week to go though (I head to Utah on the 24th)!!

Highlights:
-singing "Oh, está todo bien" {Come, Come, Ye Saints"} with lyrics we wrote about repentance over zoom. As I'm sure you can imagine, it was a grammy worthy performance haha
-finishing the Book of Mormon!! It has taken me far too long to realize how much of a gift the Book of Mormon is. After two BYU Book of Mormon classes and recording my thoughts in a journal, this was by far the most I've gotten out of it and man.... everyone just needs to read it!! I really believe that if everyone were to read this book and live its principles, so many of the problems in the world would be remedied.

Things to work on:
I'm sure this one goes without saying.... BUT I have great hope this week!! My family lives in the Spanish magnet ward in our area. A couple days ago my mom asked if anyone would be willing to talk to me in Spanish just for some practice. She got so many responses from ward members AND from the sisters serving in our ward (to do language study with them or teach a real lesson in Spanish with them)! I am so so grateful.

Thoughts this week:
I have been thinking a lot about tender mercies this week. There's a really good talk I read by Elder Bednar ("The Tender Mercies of the Lord"). He explains tender mercies as "very personal and individualized blessings, strength, protection, assurances, guidance, loving-kindnesses, consolation, support, and spiritual gifts which we receive from and because of and through the Lord Jesus Christ." I think of them as little personal miracles. Things that other people might call a "coincidence."

This week, I was feeling very discouraged. It was one of those times where I just felt like a complete imposter. I knew I needed to keep going and trust in the Lord, but right then I just felt bad for myself. Well (I'm guessing you know where this is going), when I needed it most, I got an email! It was such a simple thing, but it was exactly what I needed to hear/read. It reminded me that I am doing the right thing. It reminded me that even though I feel inadequate a lot, with the Lord I CAN accomplish anything.

How could someone know exactly what I needed to hear at exactly the moment I needed to hear it? Well, they couldn't. Our loving, all-knowing Savior could though. I think it's these little moments, these "tender mercies," that grow our testimonies, the little evidences of God working in our lives.

In sharing that experience with you guys, I wanted to let you know that you are loved. God wants to bless you, and I testify that if you keep your eyes and hearts open, you will see that he is.

So, anyways, I hope all of you have an amazing week!! Enjoy the last couple weeks of summer all my college friends:) As per usual, email me whenever! I love hearing updates from your lives too!!

Love,
Emma

Here are a few bonus pics from Mom with a few reasons why we've loved having Hermana Goold at home for her MTC training:

I can still ask her to help me open jars....

Rocky gets some extra snuggle time every day...

She cooks breakfast for us most days....

She can come with us on our family hikes....

Adam enjoys having someone to practice leapfrogging over...
We will miss these  days of having a missionary in our home.
